Each story is assigned one primary theme after a full-text reading of the issue. Connections reflect substantive secondary themes; line thickness and opacity represent the number of connected stories.

Reflections from an ongoing journey

Working on [Re]Imagine Education has meant interviewing, learning from and working alongside many faculty, students, staff and industry partners. Looking across these conversations and projects, I do not see a neat story of AI adoption. I see an ongoing journey — people experimenting, questioning, redesigning, building, reflecting and discovering where AI genuinely adds value.

What stands out is that the most interesting work is rarely about the technology alone. Again and again, the conversation returns to human judgement, learner agency, pedagogy, authentic practice and responsibility. Students are not only using AI; many are designing and building with it. Faculty are not simply adding tools; they are rethinking activities, assessment and the role of the educator. Industry and workplace examples remind us of the importance of connecting learning with how problems are encountered and solved in practice.

This map is not a conclusion. It is a snapshot of an ongoing journey. The themes overlap, the connections will continue to evolve, and new questions will emerge as AI itself changes.

Five principles emerging from the journey

These are the editor’s reflective principles — drawn from interviewing and working with contributors across the archive — not causal research findings.

1Human agency is critical in using AI meaningfully.
2Pedagogy should drive the use of AI, not the technology.
3AI should strengthen human judgement, not replace it.
4AI creates greater learning value when learners actively design, test, critique and reflect.
5Authentic and simulated environments can help learners practise complex real-world decisions safely.
